Obesity in the World!

Knowing that obesity is consided as the world's major health problem, I believe that people should be careful about it. It’s understandable that people don’t always have time to have a good meal every single day, but they should consider it at least. Here in America there’s a high rate of obesity because people eat more fast food than home cook meals. People don’t have time to eat at home or they're just too lazy to cook something healthy. Kids are being fed at school, and the food that they get is not healthy. It’s not that the school doesn’t provide healthy food, it’s just that the kids choose to eat whatever they want, and not remembering that they need to eat healthy food.

I’ve learned that obesity is not only attacking rich countries but poor ones too. People who can afford junk food choose to eat it whenever they want because it taste good. People are eating hamburgers, pizza, and other fast food just because they like it even though the food cost a lot of money in their countries. China and India are in the lowest rank of overweight adults, but obesity is expanding because of the urban population growth and more middle class people are able to afford all kinds of food they like. I found out that the number of obese people in China has tripled since 1992. This should not be happening anywhere in the world. I think people should know that food is not supposed to take our lives but to help us. We usually eat food to get healthy, but now these days we eat food that takes our lives. I understand that developing countries are dealing with “nutrition transition.” Obesity has also been a problem for the poor people because all they can afford is junk food. All they are filled up with is junk food that’s high on calories value but not anything else. This is how the majority of people in the U.S. are living everyday. McDonald has been a place for most parents who don’t have time to cook a good meal or don’t have enough money to provide a better meal for their families.

When people eat junk food, all they think about or worry about is getting fat, but they don’t realize that it’s not really about that. I understand that nobody wants to be overweight. The big problem that we should consider when we are eating non-healthy food and not even taking time to exercise is the diseases that we are going to catch from those foods. I know that sometimes we don’t think about it until we actually have the disease. I heard one time from my Kinesiology professor that people these days don’t care about their health until there’re the victims of obesity or other diseases that are caused by non-healthy food. I’ve learned that due to urbanization a lot of people are living in the denser environment, cities where they don’t get any more traditional food, and all they get is food provided by the industrial food supply.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has found out that in all the countries in the world that are facing overweight problems Nauru is on the top of the list with 94.5% of its adult population aged from 15 and up. This is unbelievable, I think something needs to be done in this country because obesity is very dangerous and it’s one of the problems that we all should not ignore because it takes lives everyday.

The United States is number 9 on the list with 74.1% of those over 15years old. This is bad, knowing that only 24.9% of the U.S. population is not overweight. I know that it’s hard sometimes with parents to have time to cook a good meal for their family, but I think we should at least consider exercising. Sometimes all kids get to eat is the café food that is not healthy, or their parents let them seat at home and watch TV all day and never get up and do something physical. I know that parents do that, too, and their kids learn from their examples. It all goes back to what my professor said. We should try to prevent obesity before we are the victims of it.
